Manchester United v FC Barcelona : The Roadtrip
28 July 2011 – 31 July 2011
Friday. Jason so kindly walked me back to my hostel. We had breakfast and we split up a few hours later. He went back to his house to change and to have another kip before practise while I…had another kip and woke up just in time to have lunch and make my way to the practise. The ironic thing about walking to the stadium was knowing that I was going to meet up with more twitter people. What I didn’t know was that they were on my train. I saw what I thought was my friend Rahat walking up the sidewalk, and send him a text….i suppose that it was fortunate that he didn’t find me creepy (“Hey. You’re wearing a Berbatov home shirt. Turn around.” Could possibly be construed as creepy.) and we walked up to the stadium together. Mike and Jason were already there, as was Chris whom we had met the previous day. It definitely made the hour wait before practise go by quickly. Once inside, you could feel the excitement building. Eric Steele, our goal keeping coach had started setting up the keeper’s markers about twenty minutes after the gates opened. It may or may not be important to note that the stadium was partially full of Barcelona supporters there to heckle our squad. Perhaps it was rude, but the team didn’t seem phased by it.
At any rate, both de Gea and Lindegaard looked really sharp. I think that there will be a lot of competition for XI position in the coming months, something that I think can only be a good thing. Anders had looked really good in previous matches while de Gea was still on holiday, so I think he’s going to definitely be putting up a fight this year. it was really good to see the squad up close and personal in an environment such as this. Of course, I can’t really complain because my seats were fantastic, both for the match and for training. I could whinge on about a lot of things here, about how Kiko seems to be having the time of his life, about how the twins look like they’re maturing by leaps and bounds everyday, about how Vida looks like a different person when he’s having a party and not in super defender mode, but I won’t. I will say a few things though, in numerated form.
1. Anders Lindegaard: dat ass.
2. Wayne Rooney, you nerd.
3. Phil Jones really busted balls in training. He’s going to put up a fight this season.
4. David de Gea, you beautiful Spanish cat.
I’ll let the pictures say the rest:
a collective “awwwww” went up at Edwin ❤
i love these two. they were the Berbatov / Vidic fan club. they both had Red Star Belgrade scarves.
Eric Steele and his boys.
Et Patrice, qui est venu un peu plus tard.

Dinner with some lovely Salford Reds and then off to the hostel for me.
